Single Oil
Each species of aromatic plant, when distilled, produces an essential oil unique to that species. Quality oils are distilled only from plant material that is healthy, organic and homogeneous, meaning that all the plant material is from exactly the same species of plant.
Any given single essential oil will have specific properties that determine its best and most effective uses. Even single oils are complex, sometimes containing hundreds of different active ingredients and can have several different therapeutic properties. We like to say that a single oil can wear many different ‘hats’ – just as we do . . . we may be a mother, a chauffeur, an employee, etc – you get the idea.
Lavender, for example can relieve stress and bring calm. It can also promote the rapid healing of wounds, and renewal of skin. So, Lavender is known to ‘wear’ a few ‘hats’, as do most essential oils.
